Thanks for the info! It is very helpful to me because I am VERY side-effect sensitive! I jokingly tell people that if there is a 1% chance that someone will get 'rabies' from a medication, I will fall into that group! I'm terrified of the Lupron shot because once it's in my body, I can't just stop taking it if I experience TERRIBLE side-effects! One side of me is very afraid that if the shot causes severe depression and pain, my life may be in jeopardy! When my symptoms are at their worst, I often feel suicidal!!!! However, the other side of me wants to TRY the Lupron, because I already spend over 2 weeks a month miserable. So.. the PMDD is killing me in a way too!!!

My history with PMDD goes back to my teenage years and I am now 49. Except back then they didn't call it PMDD. It has gone under a couple of different medical names since the 1970's. I went through hell as a teenager and young adult and was mis-diagnosed until age 24. At that time a young newly licensed residence diagnosed me with Tri-phasal lunar disorder know known as PMDD. he prescribed Prozac daily with an increased dose the week before my period. My life became managable for the first time since I had turned 13!
When I say managable I don't mean "normal"! (Whatever that is). But I was able to function and realise the difference between insane and now is a time when I just need to coast until these days pass. That to me is the best way to describe living with controlled PMDD. There are days every month when I just have to say....I need to coast, do only the minimum I HAVE to do, make NO MAJOR decisions and just let these days pass. Keeping a calendar of when these might occur and when they pass is essential. After over 20 years with this disorder and now having 2 teenage daughters with the diagnosis I think getting the message out to as many young girls is key. mainly because waiting to get a diagnosis is davastating and can cause so much trauma to peoples lives.

I would definately trial the Depo Lupron shot 1st because I took just one shot and it made my PMDD and migraines 100 times worse! From day 2 after getting the shot the migraines began (I usually get migraines the day before my period and the day my period ends and sometimes on the day I ovulate, so does my 15 year old daughter). The migraines were the worst ever. My mood was awful and the depression that resulted ended with me being hospitalized.Although it is thought that the Lupron may have caused the Prozac to stop working, which it was probably on the way to doing after being on it for 20 years for PMDD in the first place. If they had just removed my ovaries I would have been in big trouble because I am apparently one of the "rare" ones that needs the hormones. Now my problem is I am going into full blowen menopause and trying to figure out what to do as my ovaries shut down on their own.

It's so true - it's so hard to explain it to even another woman who thinks well I get moody round my period but I can deal with it so why can't you?

And as you say, if I had a broken leg and a visible plaster cast, people would empathise, help overcome problems and cut me some slack.

The more we talk about it the better.

I didn't have to take Depo, and I had the procedure in Feb. I don't know if it's the same or not. My surgery took care of everything for me, personally. Yes, I was forced into surgical menopause, but it's a breeze compared to my PMDD.

I just started an exercise program and think I am actually going to stick with this one! Hoping it will help me survive my two weeks much better. I have worked out 6 of the past 7 days (following P90X program). I have been trying to eat better, but still have a lot of changes to make in my diet.
