So many symptoms, So few answers!

As you can see from my stories I must be in a negative mood,LOL… As I write that I am smiling, but I just get a kick out of some things I type/read.

Of course as you know by now, I live with PMDD. I am (along w/ a clinical psychiatrist) and my family doctor trying to figure out why depression has become so strong AND now for the past couple of weeks rearing its ugly head all month rather than just during my 2 wk time.

I don’t want my prozac up’ed and I don’t want more meds until someone can tell me what in the world is going on inside me.

So, of course I am doing all of my research on diff ‘diseases’ and medicines, etc… I like going in knowing what I won’t take, why I shouldn’t take, etc…

I look up stomach problems, I looked this up because I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I have had it for as long as I can remember all the way back at least as far as jr high school.
For anyone who doesn’t know, feel free to look it up, LOL… it’s really not all that exciting. I deal with not going to the bathroom for a couple of weeks and then I have major stomach cramping for an hour or so and then finally begin going to the bathroom. It is actually very painful. It reminds me every time of the beginning stages of going into labor.

IT SUCKS!
Anyway, I had a doctor ask me once about stomach problems when I was discussing PMDD with him, so I looked it up.

Well, if you look it up it lists everything I have. It even occurs worse during menstruation.

It then continues to say that 60% of women that have IBS also have some other sort of psychiatric condition, 20% live w/ severe depression.

SO… what am I supposed to think?? Do I have PMDD and IBS and depression? Do they all go together? Do medical sites just list everything with every condition?

And…now when I go to my doc again tomm, it’s like…Hmmm… okay, well I have all of these symptoms, what do you think?

Good question, we will look into that too.

GEEZ…. I don’t think anyone really knows what any of us have seeing as I also have focusing problems so do I also have ADD or ADHD or is it all from the PMDD?

I AM SO SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just don’t think someone would be ‘born’ with ALL of these.

There has got to be a way to come up with one answer. Sadly enough though other than watching your calendar and keeping notes, talking to your doc is the only way you can get tested for PMDD.

(I bet if a man had PMDD, more tests would already be available!) teehee AND, NO I AM NOT A MAN BASHER! :)

I also have PMDD, IBS but I wouldn’t say I have depression becauase once I started treating the PMDD life was so much better for me.

It’s strange, I have read so many reports stating that a lot of Women with PMDD also have IBS. Makes you wonder if it’s just the stress on ourselves that causes so many of the stomach issues.

Anissa, do you notice your IBS only during your PMDD time or always.

Personally, mine is always, but I was curious about others.

Anissa, I have had IBS since I was a child. It was called excitable colon at that time. Now it’s called IBS, still same chronic pain in the a**. I remember having flare ups as a child and my mom would take out the old bentyl syrup, which is what they treated it with at the time. Now they use anti-depressents. I found that above all other treatments a high fiber diet has really helped. Suggested by my psychiatrists who also suffers from IBS. He says the fiber helps the intestines not to contract so intesely. It has really helped with making me regular and not having, sweaty, goosebump, wrythen with pain, episodes of looking for toilets in really inconvenient places. I still have flare ups the two days right before my period starts, but they are not as intense. But then again, I also have been diagnosed with PMDD. PMDD sucks the very life out of me every two weeks. The life is then replaced with anxiety, depression, anger and eating binges, not to mention the other 12 symptoms I experience. I’m on a very low dose of Zoloft, 12.5 mg daily for that problem. About 1 year ago my son, age 7 was diagnosed with ADHD, being more hyper than inattentive. After the diagnosis similarties between himself and I started to be so prevelent. I remember looking at a particular way he reacted to something and thinking, “wow I did that the exact same way as a child”, eventually the similarites were overwhelming. I talked with my psychitrists about this a he said it is very commom for mothers of ADHD children to be diagnosed shortly after the child. I guess alot of mothers do the exact same thing I did. I now take a very low dose of ADDERAL twice a day. But my psychiatrists says some of the leading women studying PMDD are beginning to see a prominent relationship between ADHD and PMDD. Maybe they are not seperate diseases at all. Maybe women who have ADHD and went undiagnosed as child suffer worse PMS as adults due to the inability to focus, organize, calm down and that exagerates the PMS symptoms 10 fold. I know this was lengthy but I feel I need to share this experience because I know I’m not alone in this battle for sanity. One last point, my son also has IBS. Coincidence, I doubt it.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
